Power PSUs join hands for energy efficiency services - Mr Shinde

Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde power minister of India said that state owned power utilities NTPC Ltd, Power Finance Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd have formed a joint venture company to promote energy efficiency projects in the country.Mr Shinde said at the Economic Editors Conference said that “Energy Efficiency Services Ltd has been formed with an equity contribution of INR 190 crore and will target revenues of INR 700 crore annually by promoting companies working in the area of energy efficiency.” He added that the companies would have equal share in EESL.EESL would promote energy efficiency projects such as Bachat Lamp Yojana, Agricultural Demand Side Management and Municipal Demand Side Management.Mr Shinde also said that a generation capacity of 62374 MW is certain to get added in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan that ends March 2012. He said that “In addition a capacity of 12590 MW may materialise on best effort basis during the current Plan. Remaining capacity may be slipping to the Twelfth Plan.”(Sourced from Business Line)
