exports to BRASIL

Brazil has a compulsory National certification for many items, as residential plugs and sockets, PVC cables until 750 V, voltage stabilizers until 3 kVA, etc. and also Ex equipment.
The Brazilian Ex certification system is based on technical standards - IEC 60079, and management standard - ISO 9001.
If an Ex equipment is already certified by a system based on IEC standards, as ATEX, the test reports can be accepted by Ex Brazilian certification bodies to issue the Brazilian certificate.
The Brazilian certification body can accept all IEC based test reports or some of them, it depends on the current IEC standard version and the version used on original test reports.
Furthermore, the Brazilian certification body needs to perform audits on the manufacturer's site, to verify if the manufacturer is following some ISO 9001 items regarding production line's quality control and procedures.
If an Ex equipment is already certified on IEC basis (ATEX, IECEx, etc.) this fact does not add any advantage on the running time of the certificate. The validity will be based on the audits period hired with the certification body. So, if the manufacturer hires 1 year of audits, the certificate will last 1 year; 2 years of audits, 2 years of validity, and so on.
The current regulation - INMETRO 83/2006 does not address any reference on IECEx system; a new regulation is expected to be issued next year, and probably IECEx system will be addressed, regarding the acceptance of IECEx test reports on issuing the Brazilian certificates.
A contact with a Brazilian certification body is recommended.
