ranked in #1413 position in 2008 Forbes Global 2000 list.- Powergrid

Power Grid of India or Power Grid Corporation of India Limited is a major name in inter state transmissions systems scenario in India. It is ranked in #1413 position in 2008 Forbes Global 2000 list.

Since its inception, Power Grid of India has been playing a stellar role in context of construction, maintenance and operation of inter state transmissions throughout India. It also looks after working of regional power grids in India.

Brief history
Power Grid of India was incorporated in 1992. In initial stages of its career network capacity, Power Grid of India spanned 22,200 circuit kilometers. There were 42 substations of Power Grid of India and their transformation capacity was 12,200 megavolt ampere.

Products and services
Power Grid of India is involved in a number of businesses like establishment of transmission system, consultancy, grid management, telecom and O&M of transmission system. It also provides services like long term open access, training and testing laboratory.

Financials
In 2007 sales of Power Grid of India amounted to about $0.83 billion and it earned profits worth around $0.25 billion. It held assets worth nearly $8.50 billion and its market value stood at around $11.54 billion.

Awards and recognition
In 2008, Power Grid of India received 'CIO THE BOLD 100-2008 Award' from International Data Group, USA. They also received National Award for e-Governance that was given by Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances of Government of India.

In 2007, Power Grid of India was awarded with certifications like PAS 99:2006 for incorporating various requirements of ISO 9001:2000 as far as quality was concerned. It was also certified as OHSAS 18000:1999 for health and safety management systems and ISO 14001:2004 for environment management.

In 2006, Power Grid of India got Green Award from World Bank. It was provided for exceptional levels of commitment shown by Power Grid of India in areas of environmental sustainability. In 2005-06, Power Grid of India received MoU Excellence Award. In 2004, Computer Society of India awarded Power Grid of India, CSI-TCS Award. This award was provided for Best IT Usage.
