RELEASE OF BOOK ON GRID SECURITY AND MANAGEMENT

New Delhi/April 8, 2009 Shri B. K. Chaturvedi, Member, Planning Commission has emphasized the importance of security of operation of electricity grids in our country. Robustness and resilience of electricity grids is a pre-requisite for the electricity markets to operate efficiently. Shri B. K. Chaturvedi was speaking on the occasion of release of the book titled ‘Grid Security and Management’ published by POWERLINE at a function in New Delhi on 7th April 2009 where he was the Chief Guest. He stated that bringing out this book is a pioneering work and the different chapters related to grid security and operation, contributed by eminent personalities from power sector gives a very insight view of the subject. He expressed his deep appreciation of the work and stated that this book would be a very useful reference document. The function was presided over by Shri S. K. Chaturvedi, CMD POWERGRID. In his address, Shri S. K. Chaturvedi dwelt on the contributions by POWERGRID in building the Indian grids to facilitate transfer of surpluses from any part of the country to anywhere within the country in a reliable and efficient manner. He stressed that safe operation of grids is a public service and the Central as well as State Governments have recognized the importance of Load Despatch Centres in accomplishing this onerous task. 

  

The book is edited by Dr. P. K. Shetty and Shri V. K. Agrawal. Dr. P. K. Shetty is an Independent Director in POWERGRID and DEAN, National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore as well as Director of the Advanced Research Institute, Bangalore. Shri V. K. Agrawal is a General Manager at POWERGRID and currently heading the Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre, New Delhi. The book contains twenty two (22) articles covering the areas of planning, technology, Market Design and Operation, Implementation and Operational Challenges as well as human and societal concerns in the context of electricity grid operations. Each article is written by eminent personalities in the sector who have made notable contributions in the field either in the Government or industry or academia. It would be a valuable reference book for anyone having an interest in the country’s power sector. Shri Rakesh Nath, Chairperson, Central Electricity Authority, who is an acknowledged expert in the area of electricity grid operations and has also authored one article in the book, received the first copy of the book on the occasion. Senior officials from Ministry of Power, CEA, CERC, POWERGRID, Industry and several participating authors attended the function.
