Symantec India Launches Norton Internet Security 2000

Norton Internet Security 2000 has been engineered for small business and personal computer users alike. Using personal firewall technology, Norton Internet Security provides a protective barrier between the Internet and the home computer. This personal firewall operates like a filter: examining inbound and outbound information and blocking all unauthorised transfers to protect against malacious applications and Trojan Horses such programs as Back Orifice.
"Cookie" control technology enables users to specify which web-sites can store cookies on their PCs, thereby preventing unsolicited web-sites from gathering personal information from the user. Norton Internet Security also blocks out web page clutter such as banner ads, Java script/Visual Basic script and pop-up windows, significantly reducing the download times of many web pages.


Customisable settings
To ensure maximum usability, Norton Internet Security 2000 includes customisable settings to enable users to quickly and easily configure the software to meet their specific needs. For additional flexibility, Norton Internet Security 2000 can be set up to accommodate multiple users, each with a personalised Internet environment. Moreover, PC "administrators" will also have complete control over the level of Internet access for each account on the PC.
The Firewall Rule Assistant Rule Wizard helps the users to set up a secure environment. It steps through the process of defining a rule for any type of communication. For communications that have not been covered, the wizard allows users to easily set the rule as they surf the web, providing maximum protection with minimal interruptions to regular on-line activities.
Norton Internet Security 2000 is also the first Symantec product to "snap" into the Norton SystemWorks console, enabling consumers to benefit from a single user interface, centralised access to help and options and reduced depletion of disk space, when both programs are installed.


Parental controlThe parental control component of Norton Internet Security 2000 has been developed in collaboration with parents, teachers and government and industry security organisations. NIS enables parents to ensure their children have a safe Internet experience by automatically blocking inappropriate information sent over the Internet to Web sites. The software suite includes a customisable list of pre-approved URLs to help in proactively establishing an optimal Internet experience for children.


Anti-virus protectionNorton Internet Security 2000 leverages the award-winning technology of Norton AntiVirus, the number one anti-virus product in the industry. This technology detects and repairs new and unknown viruses as well as known viruses at all virus entry points . When users encounter unknown problems, they can send them to the Symantec AntiVirus Research Center (SARC) for analysis. Solutions are returned to customers quickly, providing an unmatched response speed.

Pricing and availabilityNorton Internet Security 2000 is available now at an introductory price of Rs 3,300 per box and a license fee of Rs.2650 for 10-20 users. This includes a one-year subscription service that provides program updates and content and virus definitions. Annual renewals of the Nortan Internet security subscription service are available directly from Symantec and priced at US$ 19.95 per year.
