BIS conducts 5 raids to identify fake ISI logo users

As part of a major drive against manufacturers using the ISI mark on their products without a licence, the Bureau of Indian Standards recently conducted raids in various parts of Rajpura, Jalandhar, Ambala, Chandigarh and Patiala.
A total of five raids were carried out in the northern region against manufacturing/trading units that were using the ISI mark without a valid licence, according to Chandra Shelhar, deputy director general,Bureau of Indian Standards, Northern Regional office.
During the raid conducted at Rajpura in Saraswati Electricals, the firm was found engaged in the manufacture and sale of PVC Insulated cables and wires with the fake ISI mark, under the “Priya” and “Ukay” brands. More than 40 rolls and packaging material with fake marking of BIS standard mark were seized.
In another raid at Jagota Metal Works, Jalandhar, gate valves with fake BIS marking were seized along with sub- assembly and patterns for 15mm and 500mm under the ‘Jee’ and ‘Jagota’ brand names.
In Chandigarh, the BIS and police raided Weld Electrodes Enterprises, where covered electrodes for manual arc welding under the ‘Sigmaspecial’ brand were seized. At Patiala,packaged drinking water branded ‘Tanya’s’ and ‘Totalz’, with spurious ISI mark was seized from Vikal Mineral Food Private Ltd.
